What’s a good WPM?

  • Under 30 WPM — hunt-and-peck or learning.
  • 30–45 WPM — below average.
  • 45–60 WPM — average. Functional.
  • 60–80 WPM — fast. Above average.
  • 80–100 WPM — very fast. Professional level.
  • 100+ WPM — competitive typist territory.

How is WPM calculated?

WPM uses the standard definition: characters typed correctly ÷ 5, scaled to per-minute. (A “word” is conventionally 5 characters including the space.) Accuracy is correct keystrokes divided by total keystrokes.
