What’s a good WPM?
- Under 30 WPM — hunt-and-peck or learning.
- 30–45 WPM — below average.
- 45–60 WPM — average. Functional.
- 60–80 WPM — fast. Above average.
- 80–100 WPM — very fast. Professional level.
- 100+ WPM — competitive typist territory.
How is WPM calculated?
WPM uses the standard definition: characters typed correctly ÷ 5, scaled to per-minute. (A “word” is conventionally 5 characters including the space.) Accuracy is correct keystrokes divided by total keystrokes.
